What is LED technology?

LEDWAVE flashlights are manufactured to meet the needs of the armed forces and of security corps and personnel. The quality of the materials used to manufacture them is therefore extremely important.

OMBU performs constant research in order to incorporate the latest LED technology (Light Emitting Diode) in its products. Unlike traditional incandescent lights, LEDs are solid-state devices: light is generated on a molecular scale and not through the use of a filament. LEDs therefore have three great advantages over conventional incandescent lights:
Energy efficiency: an incandescent lamp emits light by means of a filament heated by an electrical current. Heating this filament requires the consumption of a large quantity of energy, which is released not as light, but as heat (a normal bulb therefore heats up when it is on). LEDs have no filaments to heat and thus do not waste energy. They are therefore between 15 and 20 times more efficient than incandescent lamps. Long useful life: the part of the LED that emits light has a useful life of approximately 100,000 hours whereas the life of a normal incandescent lamp does not usually exceed 40 hours.

Mechanical resistance: LED components are coated with optical quality epoxy resin, which is a practically indestructible material. There are neither glass parts nor breakable filaments. LEDs are therefore perfect for hostile environments and extreme temperatures. In an incandescent lamp on the other hand, the filament and the glass bulb are extremely fragile and can break at the slightest impact.
